The player takes on the role of Darius Mason, a descendant of Guerrilla Alec Mason. The game is set 50 years after the conclusion of Guerrilla. Most of the game is set in an underground tunnel complex inhabited by alien creatures. As in previous games in the franchise GeoMod is featured allowing for the destruction of parts of the landscape. This time the player can also use a Nano Forge device to repair structures such as stairs, allowing them to progress through the caves.
